The Ministry of Interior in Ghana has announced that Friday, April 7, 2023 and Monday, April 10, 2023 will be observed as statutory public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery on Monday, April 3, 2023.
In the statement, the Minister called on the general public to observe the two days as public holidays throughout the country. He also reminded citizens that the Easter festivity is a major event on the annual calendar of Ghana, with approximately 71.3% of the country’s total population identifying as Christians.
The Easter celebration is one of the most significant Christian festivals in the world, marking the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The holiday is typically observed with church services, family gatherings, and other special events.
The announcement of the public holidays is expected to provide a break for workers and students, giving them time to rest and spend quality time with family and friends.
Additionally, it will also provide an opportunity for Christians to celebrate and reflect on the significance of the Easter holiday.
It is important to note that during the public holidays, some businesses and offices may be closed or operating at reduced hours. As such, citizens are encouraged to plan their activities accordingly and make necessary arrangements to avoid any inconvenience.
