Dr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo, a lecturer at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Business Development (AAMUSTED) claims that it’s crucial for parents to monitor their children’s exposure to different situations and figure out how to best support them which includes includes bringing up sexuality in early interactions.
Speaking in Kumasi on the Ultimate FM Cup of Tea program, Dr. Amanfo underlined the need of discussing sexuality with your kids so you can appropriately orient them if they need assistance.
He added, “Today’s culture has grown sophisticated, but it does not imply we have lost our values; we do, and they may be safeguarded via good parenting.
Dr. Amanfo asked parents to spend more time with their kids and open up conversations about their sexuality. “Considering how frequently LGBTQI+ is discussed, I will advise parents to spend more time with their kids. Speak to the younger ones about their sexuality; this will help you, as a parent, to correctly orient them if you observe anything “he stated.
According to Dr. Amanfo, good parenting and having honest dialogues with your kids can go a long way toward averting social evils.
“While there may be regulations governing these matters (LGBTI+), parents still need to play a role. I believe that good parenting, where you talk to your child, can prevent a lot of social evils “he emphasized.
